Description
Prosoco Safety Klean – Low Corrosion Masonry Cleaner for New Construction
Prosoco Enviro Klean Safety Klean is a professional-grade, low-corrosion masonry cleaner engineered as a direct replacement for traditional acidic compounds on new construction job sites. Formulated for cleaning brick, tile, and concrete, it effectively removes excess mortar, dirt, efflorescence, and common construction soiling without the hazards associated with hydrochloric or other inorganic acids. Sold in a 5-gallon container, it is well-suited for contractors and trades professionals managing large-scale masonry cleandown operations where efficiency and site safety are both priorities. It is equally effective for interior and exterior applications.
Unlike traditional mineral or organic acid cleaners, Safety Klean contains no hydrochloric or other inorganic acids, making it non-fuming and safe for use on and around most metal surfaces. It delivers up to 70 percent greater cleaning effectiveness than citric and glycolic acids, and 50 percent more than phosphoric acid, giving contractors a measurably superior result without the regulatory and safety trade-offs of conventional products. It is the go-to solution for projects where traditional acidic cleaners are prohibited by specification or site conditions.
Key Features & Benefits
No Inorganic Acids – Metal-Safe Formula
Safety Klean contains no hydrochloric or other traditional inorganic acids, making it safe for use on and around most metal surfaces. This is a critical advantage on job sites where metal fixtures, hardware, or framing may be exposed during the cleaning process. Contractors can proceed with confidence without scheduling work around protecting every metal surface.
Superior Cleaning Performance vs. Competing Acids
The formula is up to 70 percent more effective than citric and glycolic acids and 50 percent more effective than phosphoric acid. This means fewer passes, less product used per square foot, and faster project completion. Contractors get a proven clean without resorting to more hazardous chemistry.
Removes Efflorescence Including Secondary Efflorescence on Concrete Block
Safety Klean is specifically formulated to remove both standard efflorescence on brick, concrete, tile, and stone, as well as secondary efflorescence on concrete block — a common and difficult problem in new masonry construction. This dual capability reduces the need for multiple specialty cleaners on a single project.
Low Odor, Non-Fuming, and Water-Rinsable
The non-fuming, low-odor formulation allows use in occupied or semi-enclosed environments without the ventilation demands of traditional acid-based cleaners. Water-rinsability simplifies cleanup and helps crews maintain productivity without additional solvents or neutralizers.
Concentrated Formula for On-Site Dilution
Supplied as a concentrate, Safety Klean can be diluted on-site, reducing shipping weight and storage space relative to pre-diluted alternatives. This also gives crews the flexibility to adjust concentration based on the severity of soiling and the substrate being cleaned.
Environmentally Responsible and VOC Compliant
Safety Klean is compliant with all national, state, and district VOC regulations, making it appropriate for use across a wide range of jurisdictions without special permitting concerns. Its environmentally responsible chemistry supports green building specifications and contractor compliance with increasingly strict site regulations.
Common Applications
New Brick Masonry Cleandown
Removes mortar smears, excess grout, and construction soiling from newly laid brick facades. Best results are achieved when cleaning is completed within 14–28 days of installation.
Concrete and Concrete Block Cleaning
Effectively cleans mortar residue and removes secondary efflorescence from concrete block — a common challenge in new masonry construction that standard cleaners often fail to address adequately.
Tile Surface Cleaning
Cleans tile surfaces of mortar smears, dirt, and construction soiling without the corrosive risk that inorganic acid cleaners pose to tile glazing and surrounding materials.
Interior Masonry Cleaning
The non-fuming, low-odor formula makes Safety Klean suitable for interior cleaning applications where ventilation is limited and fume exposure must be minimized.
Projects Where Traditional Acidic Cleaners Are Prohibited
Ideal for job sites, municipalities, or building specifications that restrict or prohibit the use of traditional mineral or organic acid cleaners. Safety Klean satisfies these requirements without sacrificing cleaning performance.
Efflorescence Removal on Brick, Stone, and Tile
Removes efflorescence deposits from brick, concrete, tile, and stone surfaces as part of post-construction cleanup or remediation of staining that develops after installation.
Compatible Materials
Brick
Concrete
Concrete block
Tile
Stone (excluding polished marble, limestone, and travertine)
Most metal surfaces (test required — can cause discoloration or corrosion on certain metal types)

Application Instructions
Pre-Cleaning Preparation
Clean masonry before installing non-masonry materials such as windows, doors, finished flooring, metal fixtures, hardware, light fixtures, roofing materials, or any other materials that could be harmed by the cleaner.
If cleaning must occur after non-masonry materials are installed, test all substrates not intended for treatment with Safety Klean before full-scale application. If testing is not feasible or indicates adverse effects, protect substrates from product splash, residue, wind drift, and fumes using Sure Klean Strippable Masking or polyethylene sheeting.
Ensure all caulking and sealant materials are in place and thoroughly cured before cleaning begins.
When applying to exteriors of occupied buildings, cover all windows and exterior intake and air conditioning vents, and shut down all air handling equipment during application.
Protect open wall cavities from rain during construction to minimize moisture-driven efflorescence.
Verify that air and masonry surface temperatures are 40°F (4°C) or above. Do not clean when temperatures are below freezing or expected to drop below freezing overnight. Allow adequate time for frozen masonry to thaw before application.
When working over active traffic areas, schedule cleaning when traffic is at a minimum and protect or divert traffic as necessary.
Timing
For best results, complete cleaning within 14–28 days of masonry installation. Mortar and grout smears left on the surface longer are more difficult to remove and may cause undesirable results.
For high-strength mortar or grout, cleaning within seven days of installation improves results.
Equipment
Apply using a roller, densely filled (tampico) masonry washing brush, or low-pressure spray (50 psi maximum).
Do not apply with high-pressure spray. Do not atomize the product.
For rinsing, use masonry-washing equipment generating 400–1000 psi with a water flow rate of 6–8 gpm. This water-pressure combination is optimal for flushing spent cleaner and dissolved soiling from masonry surface pores.
Rinse with sufficient water and pressure to completely flush spent cleaner and dissolved soiling from the masonry surface and surface pores without causing damage. Inadequate rinsing leaves residues that may stain the cleaned surface.
